Zbigniew Przasnyski

Message from the President

Dear LMU Community:

I am saddened to share that Zbigniew “Ish” Przasnyski, Ph.D., professor of information systems and business analytics in the LMU College of Business Administration, passed away on March 1, 2022, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 69 years old.

Professor Przasnyski joined LMU in August 1985 and was later promoted to the rank of professor. He was an expert in management science, operations management, and business analytics. Professor Przasnyski served as chair of Finance and Computer Information Systems from 1994-98. He earned several research grants and was honored twice with the MBA Faculty of the Year Award, a testament to his scholarship, as well as for his dedication to students’ learning.

An accomplished scholar, Professor Przasnyski worked collaboratively with faculty colleagues, publishing papers in the information systems and business analytics area. He specialized in utilizing spreadsheets in modeling quantitative problems, an area in which he was a pioneer. Professor Przasnyski played a significant role in creating and designing the Applied Information Management Systems major (AIMS), now the ISBA major and department, and introducing new areas, tools, and applications such as web development, data visualization, and business analytics into the curriculum. He also served the university on impactful committees such as the Committee on Rank and Tenure. He will be remembered as a mentor, role model, and friend to his CBA colleagues and students.

Professor Przasnyski was a consultant to the University of Maryland Hospital and the British Broadcasting Corporation, and served as a member of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Institute of Operations Research and Management Science, the Operational Research Society of Great Britain, and the American Society for Quality.

Professor Przasnyski earned his doctorate at the University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, his M.S. at the University of Essex, and his B.S. degree at Sussex.
