Kristi Shintaku
Message from the President
April 14, 2022
Dear LMU Community:
I am saddened to share that Kristi Shintaku ’91, loan supervisor in the Controller’s Office, passed away on April 11, 2022, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was 53 years old.
Ms. Shintaku started at LMU as an undergraduate and work study student in fall 1987. She joined LMU as a full-time student loan counselor after she graduated. Over Ms. Shintaku’s impactful 31-year career, she was promoted to senior student loan counselor, and in 2008, she was promoted to loan office supervisor. Ms. Shintaku was instrumental in the digitization of print records, revolutionizing how files are managed in the loan office.
An exemplary Lion, Ms. Shintaku’s dedication to her profession, her colleagues, and the university inspired many members of our community. She was also highly respected by her peers at other colleges and universities as an expert in federal and institutional loan regulations and policies, and was a featured speaker at the PacWest Student Financial Services Conference.
Memorial plans are forthcoming and will be shared in LMU This Week.
Please keep Kristi, her husband, Norman, their three daughters, her colleagues, and her many friends in your prayers.
Sincerely,
Timothy Law Snyder, Ph.D.
President
