Dear LMU Community:
I am saddened to share that Jennie Spencer Green, professor emeritus of education, died unexpectedly on May 9, 2019. She was 74 years old.
Professor Green joined the LMU School of Education in 2003. Her teaching and research focused on teacher preparation and world language acquisition, addressing issues of intercultural understanding, global awareness, and social justice. She served in leadership positions at several institutions and remained active in the field of teacher education into her retirement. She was named emeritus in 2014.
Professor Green earned her Ph.D. in multilingual education from the University of Colorado, her M.A. in Spanish literature and linguistics, also from Colorado, and her B.S. from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, May 31, 2019, at 10 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 311 N. Raymond Ave., Pasadena, CA 91103. Afterwards, a repast will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 N. Oakland Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101. RSVP for the repast to hforbes47@roadrunner.com. The Dr. Jennie Spencer Green Scholarship is being established and will be administered by the Scholarship Committee of the Pasadena chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. In lieu of flowers, donations in Professor Green’s memory can be made to this scholarship fund, payable to Pasadena Delta Foundation. The memo line should indicate “In Memory of Jennie Spencer Green,” and sent to: Pasadena Delta Foundation, P.O. Box 93552, Pasadena, CA 91109.
